4 Winds SCIO is the charity set-up to distribute community benefits from the Little Raith Wind Farm in Fife!
Established in 2013, the charity has supported good causes in the localities of Auchtertool, Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly and Lumphinnans with over £730,000 over the past decade.
The wind farm has an installed capacity of 24.75 megawatts across 9 turbines and is equivalent to the average annual electricity use of 19,000 homes! Little Raith was opened by Kennedy Renewables and is now operated by The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) – the world’s largest independent renewable energy company. Day-to-day management of the Little Raith site is down to Renewable Energy Systems (RES). You can find out more about Little Raith Wind Farm by clicking here, or about RES by clicking here.
4 Winds receives over £85,000 a year in community benefits from the operation of the Wind Farm, which the charity is responsible for investing in the 4 neighbouring communities.
The 4 Winds board of trustees, who all live in the local communities, meet four times per year to decide on funding applications received by the organisation.
